SCHOLARSHIP
Sylvia Elaine French Memorial Scholarship
The Sylvia Elaine French Memorial Scholarship: Charles H. French and family established the scholarship, in memory of the late Sylvia Elaine French. Mrs. French had an extensive career with the DC Department of Health. She held various positions, including Director of the Office of Public Affairs, and retired August 31, 2000. The scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate leadership and a commitment to service. Award Amount: $1,000.00 – $2,000.00

Dr. James and Dr. Juliette McNeal Scholarship
The students eligible for assistance must be incoming first-year students who completed the Metro Washington DC Chapter Workshops. Current students must demonstrate excellence in academic, character, and leadership. Student must serve as a role model and mentor. Award Amount: $1,00.00- $2,000.00.

Alumnus Bobby J. Player Sr.,’58 and Family Scholarship
The students eligible for assistance must be incoming first-year student who completed the Metro Washington DC Chapter Workshops. Current students must demonstrate excellence in academic, character, and leadership. Student must serve as a role model and mentor. Award Amount: $1,000.00- $2,000.00.
SCHOLARSHIP
The Howard Watkins,Charles Henry, and Sylvia Elaine French Endowed Scholarship (Planned)
Preference will be given to students based on criteria established by scholarship sponsors, donors, president, or his designee. Special consideration may be given to undergraduate students, based on need, in the Percy J. Vaughn College of Business, cadets of the Detachment 019 AFROTC, and members of the Beta Zeta Chapter of Alabama State University. Annual scholarships will be awarded based on availability of funds. The amount of scholarship varies from $1,000 to $2,000. Scholarships may be renewed based on donors’ preference and funding. Scholarship recipient’s funds will be distributed to students by the Alabama State University Foundation upon official written request by the president or his designee.

Friends of Howard Watkins AFGE Scholarship
Since 1991, the America Federal Government Employees (AFGE) Union Plus Scholarship Program has awarded more than $4.8 million to students of working families who want to begin or continue their post-secondary education.
AFGE families who apply to FEEA’s program are also eligible for special AFGE-sponsored awards, using the same application as the regular FEEA scholarship.
The Federal Employee Education and Assistance Fund (FEEA) 2025 scholarship application is available through March 13, 2025. The scholarship is for eligible students and can be used for tuition and fees at any accredited college or university. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000, and students can apply directly by googling AFGE 2025 Scholarship website. 2025 deadline is March 13, 2025.
