Our Purpose

The purpose of the Friends of Howard Watkins Scholarship Foundation Support to Alabama State University is the brainchild of Howard Watkins and Mr. Charles H. French who has been an advocate and donor of HBCUs. After the death of Mr. French wife. Mr. French and family donated and raised over $1,0000.00 to support the work of Mr. Watkins at ASU. Mr. Watkins established the Sylvia E. French Memorial Scholarship for ASU students. Mr. French’s daughter, Karen French Reed, is the longest donor of her mother’s scholarship. Other alumni and donors have joined Mr. Watkins’ effort and vision to pay his debt to Ole Mother Dear, Alabama State University. He says as an alumnus of ASU, it is his duty. And he asks others to join him.

Students attending ASU should enjoy the quality of education he experienced and the support and mentorship that lead to the successful completion of a bachelor’s degree and Air Force commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force, and successful career.
